Description
In today’s dynamic jazz landscape, where the extraordinary can often be overshadowed, Artyom Manukyan boldly ventures into new territory with his remarkable debut album, “CITIZEN.” A distinguished alumnus of both the Yerevan Conservatory and Berklee College of Music, Artyom masterfully weaves unconventional instruments, such as the French horn, oboe, and cello, into the tapestry of modern jazz. This innovative approach captivates and inspires both seasoned aficionados and newcomers to the genre.
Throughout his time at the conservatory, Artyom cultivated his musical talents and actively participated in a variety of jazz ensembles, carving out his role as the bassist for the ethno-jazz group “KATUNER.” His musical journey further propelled him to the prestigious Armenian Navy Band, guided by the esteemed Grammy Award winner Arto Tunçboyacıyan, where he gained invaluable international touring experience and accolades.
Upon relocating to the vibrant city of Los Angeles, Artyom discerned the ideal environment to fulfill his artistic vision. It wasn’t long before he became a vital part of the local music scene, wholeheartedly embracing his identity as a creative musician. His album, “CITIZEN,” exemplifies this profound transformation.
Comprising ten tracks, eight of which are self-composed, the album is an engaging exploration of varied musical styles, all unified by a deep emotional resonance. This innovative sound encourages listeners to both engage intellectually and connect emotionally, creating a multi-layered experience.
From the tender melodies of “Old New Home” and “Waltz For Maya,” dedicated to his cherished daughter, to the spirited rhythms of “Sailors Song” and “Turgut To Be True,” each composition invites listeners on an enchanting sonic journey. A special highlight of the album, crafted alongside rapper A. Chilla, serves as a tribute to the roots of his musical career, showcasing his remarkable versatility. Additionally, “Duet No. 1,” features the extraordinary pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan in a stunning improvisational piece, embodying the essence of spontaneous creativity.
Artyom Manukyan’s “CITIZEN” is more than just an album; it is an invitation to immerse yourself in the enchanting world of jazz. Let the music inspire and transport you, igniting your imagination.
