We are delighted to announce the upcoming release of “Floor Plans,” the highly anticipated album by the exceptionally talented bassist and composer, Logan Kane. This marks Logan’s inaugural full-length recording as the leader of an acoustic jazz quintet. A distinguished soloist, Logan has honed his craft under the mentorship of renowned artists such as Ambrose Akinmusire, Peter Erskine, and composer Vince Mendoza. He stands proudly at the vanguard of the dynamic Los Angeles jazz scene, collaborating with esteemed musicians like alto saxophonists David Binney and Steve Lehman, pianist John Escreet, and saxophonist Henry Solomon, among numerous other prominent figures both on the West Coast and beyond.
At just 26 years old, Logan has achieved remarkable proficiency on his chosen instrument. He effortlessly traverses the worlds of upright bass jazz and bass guitar across various alternative genres, participating in diverse projects including the popular punk ensemble Thumpasaurus and experimental soul artist Jon Bap. As a composer, Logan is deeply influenced by a rich tapestry of jazz and classical traditions, while also exploring wider realms, incorporating elements of math rock and contemporary music into his work.
“Floor Plans” represents Logan’s fresh vision, ignited by the vibrancy of the current Los Angeles jazz renaissance. This project introduces an enigmatic and innovative compositional voice to the international jazz community. Logan’s dynamic ensemble, featuring illustrious musicians such as David Binney on alto sax, Mark Turner on tenor sax, John Escreet and Paul Cornish on piano, Jon Hatamiya on trombone, and Benjamin Ring on drums, beautifully navigates intricate rhythmic, melodic, and contrapuntal challenges. Each member contributes to captivating moments that merge seamlessly with daring solos characteristic of expert improvisation.
